How to Play the Crazy Sentences ESL Game
Preparation:
Before class, download and print the free adjective-noun cards (PDF below). Cut them out and keep the two sets separate.
Instructions for Teachers:
- Divide students into teams (2-4 teams, depending on class size).
- Distribute the adjective and noun cards to each team. They shuffle the cards and place them face down in two separate piles.
- Explain the rules:
- Each team will flip one adjective and one noun card per round.
- They have three minutes to create a grammatically correct sentence.
- Sentences don’t have to be true—in fact, the crazier, the better!
- Sentences can be in any tense and positive or negative.
- Scoring system:
- 1 point for correct grammar.
- 1 point per word in a grammatically correct sentence.
- Bonus point for correctly fixing another team’s mistake.
- Continue playing:
- After each round, teams discard the used cards and draw new ones.
- The game continues until all the cards have been used.
- Winning the game:
- The team with the highest score at the end wins!
