This miming game is ideal for teaching or revising vocabulary around hotel stays, travel mishaps, and making polite requests in English.

🧳 What’s in the Free Hotel Problems PDF?

This classroom-ready printable includes:

  • A set of hotel-related problems and requests cards (e.g., “Could you help me with my suitcase?” or “The air conditioner is broken.”)
  • Easy-to-follow instructions for a team-based miming game
  • Scenarios that simulate real-life travel communication challenges

Perfect for A2 to B2 learners, this game is especially useful in travel English lessons, speaking classes, or as a warm-up activity.

🎭 How to Play the Hotel Problems Miming Game

  1. Set the Scene
Tell students they’re in a hotel in a foreign country and can’t speak the local language. The only way to communicate a problem or request is through miming!
  2. Model the Activity
Take one card and act it out yourself. For example, mime carrying a heavy suitcase and gesturing for help. Get students to guess the phrase. Encourage exact matches for points!
  3. Form Teams
    • Divide students into teams of 4
    • Each team plays against another (or run one large game with two teams for small classes)
  4. Let the Games Begin!
    • A player picks a card and mimes the sentence to the opposing team
    • The other team shouts out guesses until they get the exact sentence
    • One point is awarded for each correct guess
    • If no one guesses in 2 minutes, the card is passed
  5. Repeat & Rotate
Teams alternate turns until all cards have been used. The team with the most points wins!

🌍 Why ESL Teachers Love This Activity

  • 💬 Builds travel vocabulary and request phrases
  • 😂 Sparks energy and laughter in the classroom
  • 🎭 Practices non-verbal communication and comprehension
  • 💡 Great for warm-ups, end-of-lesson games, or themed lessons on travel and tourism

Best of all—it’s a no-prep ESL activity. Just print, cut, and go!

🔑 Teaching Tip

After the game, have students write mini dialogues based on the cards they mimed. This helps them transfer the fun of the game into practical speaking skills and reinforces polite request structures.
