Looking for a dynamic and engaging ESL activity to help students practice adverbs of frequency while improving their speaking and listening skills? The “Interview the Group” activity is a fantastic way to encourage students to use adverbs naturally in conversation while interacting with classmates.

How to Play “Interview the Group”

1️⃣ Prepare the Materials

  • Print and cut out the interview worksheets, ensuring each group of six students receives a full set.

2️⃣ Divide the Class into Groups

  • Assign six students per group.
  • Give each student a different interview form with a specific question topic.

3️⃣ Conduct the Interviews

  • Each student interviews their group members and records their answers.
  • Students must answer using Yes/No responses and an adverb of frequency (e.g., I usually exercise on weekends).

4️⃣ Write Summary Sentences

  • Once the interviews are complete, each student writes five summary sentences based on their findings using the following phrases:
    • Most people…
    • Almost everyone…
    • Two/Three people…
    • Only one person…
    • Hardly anyone…
    • No one…

5️⃣ Class Presentation

  • Each student shares their findings with the class, using their summary sentences.

Example Questions from the Interview Forms

📌 Example Interview Topics:

  • Do you always eat breakfast in the morning?
  • Do you sometimes listen to music while studying?
  • Do you usually do your homework on time?
  • Do you hardly ever watch TV at night?
  • Do you never go to bed before 10 PM?

📌 Example Summary Sentences:
Most people always eat breakfast in the morning.
Almost everyone sometimes listens to music while studying.
Only one person never does their homework on time.
