Job Vocabulary – Lesson Plan for ESL

Objective:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to effectively use job-related vocabulary and reported speech to accurately describe job experiences, interview scenarios, and workplace conversations.

Specific objectives:

  1. Identify and recognize a range of job-related vocabulary, including different professions, job titles, and workplace terminology.
  2. Understand the meaning and usage of job-related vocabulary in the context of specific professions and work settings.
  3. Expand their job-related vocabulary through exposure to new terms and expressions related to different industries.
  4. Understand the concept of reported speech and its purpose in relaying information from job-related conversations, interviews, and workplace interactions.
  5. Apply reported speech accurately when reporting statements, questions, and commands related to job experiences, interviews, and workplace scenarios.
  6. Engage in interactive activities, such as role plays, interviews, and dialogues, to practice using reported speech and job-related vocabulary in authentic contexts.

Ask students to listen out for what his job is, whose book did he use as inspiration?, who liked his photos the most?, etc

Research task: Jobs

Put students in teams and give them each a worksheet. Let them use their devices to research the different jobs.

What’s my job

Each student gets a card with a job on it and the other students have to try to guess what job they have. Yes or no questions only.

Actvity 4

Work riddles vocabulary

Encourage students to read through, learn vocabulary and answer the riddles (it doesn’t matter if they’re right or not).

Students can accrue points by answering questions about the riddles/vocabulary which can be used in the next activity.
