How can I help children with Phase 1 Phonics?

Level two Phonics of the Letters and Sounds program will build on the linguistic focus presented in Level 1. It is generally encountered first in Reception class, but how phonics is taught is at the teacher’s discretion.

By the end of Year 1, children will be expected to pass the Phonics Screening Check to test their phonological awareness.

If you’re wondering how to teach Level two phonics to children, there are lots of fun and imaginative ideas that you can use. Keep children excited and engaged by organising a treasure hunt for the Phase two letters and sounds, or watch some of the many phonics-themed songs, videos and rhymes that are available online or on YouTube.
