Activity Objective: To be able to read big numbers
THE PRICE IS RIGHT – Procedure
- Give students a hint sheet about reading big numbers. Introduce the way to read big numbers.
- Students will make pairs. Give students a memo sheet.
- A number will be shown on the screen. In pairs, one student will look at the screen and read the number. The other student, who is not allowed to look at the screen, writes down the number on his memo sheet.
- The students will switch roles and practice a few times. The numbers will get bigger and bigger.
- The students will now make groups of four. Each group is given a small whiteboard and a marker.
- The students will play the game “The Price is Right”.
- The teachers will show a picture of an item using PowerPoint. In their groups, they must guess the price of the object; write the number on the board and read out the number.
- The group which guesses the price closest to the original price of the item gets a point.
- The group which gets the most number of points at the end of the game wins and gets a reward.
Materials and Preparation
Materials: Memo sheets, PowerPoint file, projector, PC/laptop, small whiteboards and markers
Preparation: Set up the equipment before the class.
