Explain
Explain that children are going to learn about:
- What is a story.
- Story elements.
Model
Ask children: What are they doing in the photo? (Reading). Do you think the boy is enjoying the book? Why? (Yes, because he is smiling.) Ask children: What are your favorite kinds of stories? (answers will vary). Say: There are many different kinds of stories such as scary stories, funny stories, true stories, and stories about history and science. What kind of story would you like to write about? (answers will vary).
Apply
Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature. After the first game, ask children to create their own character and discuss it. After the second game, have them discuss stories that their friends like.
