A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CELEBRITY

Target Group: 6th year

Difficulty Level: Fundamentals

Activity Objective: To become familiar with vocabulary and phrases associated with one’s daily routine and telling time

Procedure

  1. Preparation: After you have explained the activity, you will need to set up the blackboard. Post about four celebrity pictures across the top of the blackboard.
  2. Daily Activity Cards: Below each celebrity picture, display four or five daily activity cards, leaving some space between each card.
  3. Adding Times: Write a time next to or below each of the daily activity cards. These times should be chosen so that each celebrity’s daily activities happen around the same time, but make sure no two celebrities have the exact same times.
  4. Explaining the Activity: Begin by reading one celebrity’s daily routine from top to bottom in the first person. For instance, “I get up at 7:30,” and so on. Then, ask the students, “Who am I?”
  5. Student Responses: Encourage the students to raise their hands and answer with the name of the celebrity. When they respond, they should say, “You are (insert the name of the celebrity).”
  6. Start with Easy Times: Initially, choose times that are easy to understand, and ensure the differences between the routines of the celebrities are quite clear to the students.
  7. Increasing Difficulty: As the students become more familiar with the activity, modify it to include more challenging times and routines.
  8. Keep the Mystery: To keep the students engaged and curious, construct the activity in a way that the students cannot determine who the teacher is pretending to be until you reveal the very last activity and time.
  9. Variation: If there’s sufficient time, consider changing the celebrities and/or the daily activities to add variety and maintain the students’ interest.

This activity is an interactive and fun way to engage students while practicing English and learning about the daily routines of different celebrities.

Materials and Preparation

Prepare 5-10 colour pictures of celebrities that the students know. You can choose characters like Doraemon, celebrities like Lady Gaga, or teachers within the school. Laminate the pictures and put magnets on the back so they can be used for other activities. Also make 4 or 5 picture cards for
each activity in the daily routine that you will use.

Suggestions and Advice

Depending on your class’s level, try to explain the activity in very simple English. Use plenty of gestures and consider doing a demonstration or practice run to help students grasp the concept. If you find that motivation to participate is initially low, you can introduce stickers or similar prizes as incentives for students to join in.

Based on your class’s level, feel free to adjust the activity’s difficulty. For less advanced classes, you might want to make the times easy, such as 4:00 or 4:10. However, in more advanced classes, you can challenge the students by choosing similar-sounding times like 3:13 and 3:30 to test their listening skills. Tailoring the activity to your class’s level will ensure that it’s engaging and appropriately challenging for your students.
