My Way

In this fun and interactive ESL activity, students guess how their classmates perform everyday activities using adverbs of manner.

🔹 Preparation

📄 Materials Needed:

  • One worksheet per student
  • A whiteboard or flipchart for brainstorming
  • Paper & pen for keeping score

🔹 How to Play

🎯 Step 1: Brainstorming

  • Before beginning, ask students to brainstorm adverbs of manner (e.g., quickly, carefully, loudly, fluently).
  • Alternatively, divide the class into groups and do a board race to generate at least 30 adverbs.

✏️ Step 2: Completing the Worksheet

  • Give each student a copy of the worksheet.
  • Students choose 20 sentences and complete them with true adverbs of manner.
  • Each sentence should use a different adverb, and students keep their sentences secret.

🎤 Step 3: Teacher Demonstration

  • Ask students to guess how you do certain activities.
  • Example:
    • Teacher: “It’s something I do fluently.”
    • Student: “Do you speak English fluently?”
    • Teacher: “Correct!”

👥 Step 4: Student Pair Work

  • Divide students into pairs.
  • Students take turns guessing how their partner does different activities from their worksheet.
  • They ask questions in the same format as the teacher’s demonstration.

📊 Step 5: Scoring System

  • Students get 5 guesses per activity.
  • Points System:
    • 1st guess: 5 points
    • 2nd guess: 4 points
    • 3rd guess: 3 points
    • 4th guess: 2 points
    • 5th guess: 1 point
    • If a student fails to guess, their partner gets 5 points.
  • The student with the highest score wins! 🎉
