  • Orally use words that describe laughing.
  • Extend oral vocabulary by speaking about what makes people laugh.

Explain

Explain that children are going to learn about:

  • Why people laugh.
  • When people laugh.
  • What makes people laugh.

Model

Ask children: Do these children look like they are having a good time? (Yes). How can you tell? (They are laughing, smiling, happy). Ask children: What might these children be laughing about? (A funny joke or story). Say: Laughing is a lot of fun. People laugh when something is funny, or when they are happy or when they are celebrating. Sometimes, when one person starts laughing, others join in as well. How can you cheer up someone if they are sad? (answers will vary).


Apply

Have children play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature. After the first game, ask children to make funny laughs. After the second game, have them discuss a funny moment they had with friends.

Ask children: What are some bad things to laugh about? Say: Laughing places people in better moods however it is not nice to laugh at someone because you can hurt their feelings. You should also be careful that you don’t laugh too loudly because you don’t want to disturb others. Think about how you laugh and other laughs that you like.
