Lesson Plan: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Making a Sustainable Difference

Introduction (10 minutes):
  1. Begin the lesson by discussing the concept of using games to learn and reinforce language skills. Explain that today’s lesson will incorporate the popular game “Pokemon” to make learning English more enjoyable.
  2. Show a few images of Pokemon characters and ask students if they recognize any of them. This will generate interest and excitement about the lesson.

Activity 1: “Pokemon Vocabulary” (15 minutes):

Display the PowerPoint presentation, which includes slides with images of Pokemon characters and their names in English.

  • Review the names of Pokemon characters together, emphasizing pronunciation.
  • Engage the students in a pronunciation practice game. Show an image of a Pokemon character, and ask students to take turns pronouncing its name correctly. Use the whiteboard to keep score.

Activity 2: “Pokemon Card Game” (20 minutes):

Hand out printed Pokemon cards to the students. Each card should have an image of a Pokemon character and its name in English.

  • Divide the class into pairs or small groups. In each group, one student acts as the “trainer,” and the other as the “Pokemon.”
  • The trainer must give commands to the Pokemon using English sentences, such as “Pikachu, use Thunderbolt on Charmander.” The Pokemon responds with an action or sound that corresponds to the command.
  • Encourage students to take turns being trainers and Pokemon, practicing different English commands.

Activity 3: “Pokemon Storytelling” (10 minutes):

Have each student select a Pokemon character card.

  • In pairs or individually, ask the students to create a short story or description that involves their chosen Pokemon.
  • The story should be presented in English and can include details about the Pokemon’s abilities and adventures.

Conclusion (5 minutes):

Summarize the key vocabulary and language skills covered in the lesson.

Encourage students to continue practicing their English through games and storytelling.

Homework:

Assign students to create a short story or comic strip featuring their chosen Pokemon character and share it in the next class.

Assessment:

Assess students based on their participation in the Pokemon card game, their ability to correctly pronounce Pokemon names, and the quality of their storytelling.
