Level: Intermediate

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions using the present perfect tense to discuss life experiences.

Materials: Whiteboard/Chalkboard, markers/chalk, handouts with questions, and a projector for multimedia resources.

Duration: Approximately 60 minutes

Introduction (10 minutes):

  1. Begin with a discussion about students’ experiences by asking, “Have you ever traveled to a foreign country?” Share your own experience to model the conversation.

Vocabulary (5 minutes): 2. Introduce any necessary vocabulary related to the topic. Write new words on the board.

Present Perfect Tense (15 minutes): 3. Teach or review the present perfect tense. Use examples and provide a clear explanation of its structure and use.

Activity 1 – Group Discussion (15 minutes): 4. Divide the class into small groups and give each group a set of question cards (e.g., “Have you ever ridden a horse?” “Have you ever eaten sushi?”). Instruct them to discuss and share their experiences, asking and answering the questions using the present perfect tense.

Activity 2 – Role Play (10 minutes): 5. Pair up students. Assign each pair a scenario or situation where they have to use “Have you ever…” questions to have a conversation. For example, “You’re at a job interview. Ask and answer questions to find out about each other’s experiences.”

Wrap-up (5 minutes): 6. Regroup the class and discuss some of the interesting experiences students shared during the role-play activity.

Homework (5 minutes): 7. Assign homework where students have to write a short paragraph about a memorable experience they’ve had using the present perfect tense.

Assessment (5 minutes): 8. To assess students’ understanding, have a quick quiz on the present perfect tense or ask individual students to share their homework paragraphs.

Closure (5 minutes): 9. Summarize the main points of the lesson and encourage students to continue practicing their English by asking “Have you ever…” questions in their everyday conversations.
